Pulse Diagnosis in Ayurveda: Reading the Rhythm of Life by Dr Dushyant Nirmal certified Ayurvedic Doctor from India across Germany
In Ayurveda, pulse diagnosis, or Nadi Pariksha, is a profound diagnostic tool used to assess the unique constitution and state of balance within an individual. It is based on the principle that the pulse reflects the dynamic interplay of the three fundamental energies, or doshas—Vata, Pitta, and Kapha—and the health of the body's tissues and organs.
A trained practitioner feels the radial pulse at the wrist using three fingers. Each finger corresponds to a specific dosha:
· The index finger feels Vata, located closest to the wrist.
· The middle finger feels Pitta, in the center position.
· The ring finger feels Kapha, at the farthest point.
By perceiving the unique qualities of the pulse—its speed, rhythm, volume, force, and temperature—the practitioner can detect imbalances even before they manifest as physical symptoms. Thus, Nadi Pariksha is not just a check for disease, but a holistic assessment of one's physical, mental, and emotional well-being, providing a blueprint for restoring harmony and health.
